The Security Industry Authority (SIA) is updating its licensing rules and conditions from 1 December 2025. These changes affect all current licence holders and anyone applying for a new licence or renewal.
Key updates include stricter rules for applicants with sex offences, child abuse/neglect convictions, or prison sentences over 12 months. The list of relevant criminal offences is also being updated, and anyone who has lived outside the UK for 6 months or more in the past 10 years must provide criminal record checks from each country.
Licence holders should also note that certain notification deadlines are being reduced: changes to name or address must now be reported within 2 calendar days, and other changes within 7 calendar days. The SIA is also widening what it can consider under ‘other information’ criteria.
Staying informed and compliant is critical. These updates reinforce the importance of professionalism, attention to detail, and keeping your records up to date. Make sure you review your licence and take action early if needed.
For licensed guards and aspiring professionals, these updates are a reminder that reliability and adherence to rules build trust with employers. Stay ahead in your career and connect with top opportunities at www.ma2security.co.uk today.
Strength. Trust. Protection.

Thanks for the update
Thanks for posting this — really helpful update. I’ve been trying to keep up with the new SIA rules, and it’s not always clear what’s changing or when. Good to see MA² explaining things properly and keeping us in the loop.
